Dr. David W. Merrell
Dr. David Merrell has always entertained and educated children. For many years, David illustrated children’s books and school textbooks. Helping children become engaged in reading was very rewarding. Today, as a pediatric dentist, Dr. Merrell uses his artist’s eye-hand coordination to improve his patients' smiles and health. David is dedicated to maintaining his patients’ healthy teeth through excellent dental care. He also teaches patients and parents oral hygiene practices that will, if used daily, significantly reduce tooth decay. Dr. Merrell believes his patients should have smiles that last a lifetime.
David attended the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. David then graduated with Distinction from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. He completed a two-year residency program at VCU/MCV School of Dentistry where he specialized in Pediatric Dentistry. Following residency, David was invited to join the West End practice of Dr. Jeffrey Blair. Dr. Merrell acquired the practice in 2014.
David is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Virginia Society of Pediatric Dentistry, South Eastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association and the Richmond Dental Society. He has participated in providing dental care to the underserved through programs such as the Mission of Mercy Projects, VCU’s Give Kids a Smile days and Roanoke’s Child Health Investment Partnership.
David, his wife Leslie, and their children fell in love with Richmond the day they arrived. The natural beauty of Virginia and the rich history of Richmond continue to amaze them. When not in the office, David enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his fine art.
